The Cantaloupe (Study)

My first oil painting. I used a free reference photo from Unsplash, and approached this painting very much with the attitude of "whelp, let's see what happens". This was before I had starting taking a colour theory course, or before I knew much about oil techniques. I "sketched" the fruit out with some alizarin crimson and solvent, focusing on dynamic brush strokes, and just got to painting.

I've been hooked ever since.
